Proper Load Distribution and Tire Maintenance
Posted on October 12, 2023
Maintaining proper air pressure in all tires based on the weight of the load you are carrying is a crucial part of ensuring your vehicle performs to its best ability and your load reaches its destination safely. As load weights vary, so do proper air pressures; heavier loads require additional air pressure to support the extra weight. Distributing your load evenly across all wheel positions ensures vehicle stability.
Once a load has been securely positioned, the ability to adjust your air pressure is gone, so making sure these pressures are correct prior to loading are key. Failure to do so can result in excessive wear and fatigue, resulting in increased maintenance and repair-related downtime. Follow the manufacturer’s recommended weight limits and load distribution guidelines.
Check your load regularly and maintain proper tire pressure. Look for signs such as vibrations and uneven tire wear to determine if your tires are under- or over-inflated. This also will affect fuel efficiency and handling. Inspect your tires frequently to ensure you and everyone else on the road remains safe.
